All the DD viewers we have happy news for you, in a major spreading out mission, National Broadcaster Prasar Bharati is all set to mount its television channels to 51 and radio channels to 20 on the DTH platform.
At present, the Prasar Bharati is providing 33 TV channels and 12 radio channels on its DTH platform, At the heart of all the radio channels would be a 24-hour Malayalam channel service which would be on hand in any corner of the country.
Looks as if, after the registering an impressive 48.9 per cent increase over the previous year DD is all set to do wonders in the field.

This news has proven to be rubbish.Its shameful on the part of prasar bharati that they are unable to keep their promises and its better if they don’t make such statements in future.If they are really facing some tecnical difficulties, they should tell open to the public and its DTH viewers.I think they cannot tackle the competetion with the private DTH broadcasters in future if they function in this way.

Please start SUN TV again on DTH. Since SUN TV went off air , we never switch on the TV. We spent money on DTH just only for sun tv. It is quite disappointing for us that it is off air within 2 days after we brought DTH. We have missed all our favorite programs now since this change. Hope this will be taken into consideration. It is not only our family, there are many more families who are just disappointed by this change.

Yes., DD has been mentioning on DD News channel that they are proud to announce that they had upgraded to 50 tv and 20 radio channels but nothing had happend.How can they show such scroll and just put 10 tv channels (that too the repeated channels with TEST numbers ) and 4 radio channels. it is very disappointing as suntv is out of dth.
It is very shameful to feel that the promises are flying off month by month.
Suntv being such a big reputed organisation should not break the promises.
They should have decided before they have planned suntv as free to air doordarshan dth.

For more than a year, DD is promising to expand its channel base to 51 + 20 radio channel, but it never keeps its promise. I don’t know why DD is not able to stick to its promise. The people are very eager to tune additional channels. It is really a matter of disappointment. Is it a 5 year plan? The public is looking forward to a firm date of launching additional channels. Is it possible for DD to announce a firm date?

DD Direct+ is a world no:- 1 worst DTH service.
For the past one year, every month they have said that we are going to increase to channels this month. But nothing happened. They have increased to 50 but these are the same old channels.

24 Hour Malayalam radio Channel was offered by the end of May’06. But two more months elapsed without a 24 hour radio channel for Malayalam. The channel started now only relays Thiruvanathapuram AIR programmes with the least technical and entertainment values.( An academic type of radio channel, the programmes of which are produced for an AM radio only, which is already available througout Kerala through Alleppey relay station and SW channel.) This ”24 hour” channels closes every day at 12 midnight. Malayalam is the only major language not having a 24 hour entertainment channel in stereo over DTH radio.

DD DTH service is excellent. I think this is the first free DTH service in the world. It is very use full for all urban rural area peoples. Also people will get good audio video signals without any unwanted noise and iterruption.Some times audio distrupanses i.e. excess volume coming from AIR TAMIL especially in morning times. (06.00 am to 8.30 am) Hence I request you to take necessary action in this regard. Last ten days we got Lanka TV and Lanka TV2, Suryan FM. But now we unable to get the these signals. Please rectify it. Also we are excepting more tv channels and radio channels from DD DTH Platform. Convey my best wishes to all Engineers & Technical Assistant in DD DTH.

As regarding the DD DTH channels, I don’t think they will increase their capacity in the near future due to the failure of INSAT 4C.
The withdrawal of Sun TV from the DD DTH is a big loss for the viewers as is the case of the Middleast viwers who are not able to watch any Sun channel except in UAE.

one & the only question every DD DTH user asking is, when Prasar Bharti is going to increase the Channels to 50 . They are giving false information always, which is not correct. It is now more than one year that they are telling it is going to be increased to 50 . They don’t have any fixed time frame? Good channels like BCC, Sun TV have withdrawn. it is a big loss to viewers, especially Sun TV. I think it is better to switch over to other DTH like Tata Sky or Dish TV as early as possible. If at all they increase, they will add unwanted channels, which nobody will see, and show everyone that they are giving 50 channels free of cost.

dear DD DTH viewers, pl STOP enquiring about when channels are going to increase. it is never going to happen. DD is asking Rs.1 crore per annum from private channels, that is why they are withdrawing one by one. now we can call it DD Direct Minus (& not Plus). One way they are encouraging private DTH. If at all they increase, it will be TV5, N TV, DW TV, Lanka TV, S TV, Y TV, Baby TV etc. etc. So pl dont’ be fools & never enquire about increse in channels. Better shift to Tata Sky or Dish TV. Or the Govt. better privatise the DD Direct Minus, and bring back the Plus mark by improving the standard of DTH. Govt. pl awake!!!!!!!

For the last two years I am regular viewer of DD DTH. The reception of DTH is very good, therefore I discontinued Cable TV. Some of my friends purchased DD DTH. Till today, I am informed that DD DTH will increase from 33 to 50 channels. There must be consistency about the issued statement with regard to increase of TV and Radio channels .

As far as DD DTH is concerned, as commented above, promises are going on well, but nothing is really happening on the ground. We know Prasar Bharti is a public institution and it takes its own time to act on everything. Moreover, DD Direct Plus is a free to air DTH platform and we don’t have any other option but to wait and watch for anything that will happen with it. I think there are so many reasons behind for the delay in increasing channels on its platform. Whatever reasons it may be, If Prasar Bharti has given promises to its viewers on increasing channels on DD DTH within a span of time, throught their statements by any means, then they should meet those promises, as people bought equipments merely based on these promises. They can’t just keep quite. They should be held responsible. If Prasar Bharti has lost any existing channel’s presence on the DD DTH, it is just because of their attitude. Only they are to be blamed. We are all expressing our concerns and putting our comments here keeping in mind that this service is free to its viewers. But that was the offer from Prasar Bharti. Hope they will read all the comments and will act on it.

it was thinking that DTH wiil b revolution in india.but it proved wrong.the reason is cable tv & government policies.cable tv owner dont want DTH is obvious.govrnment is not takeing any action againts pay channels when they show advertisements.in other countries pay channels r not allow for advertisement at all.if this rule is followed the DTH will definetly have good future.

I think some upgradation work is going to happen tonight (August 5, 2006) according to DD News ticker. Let’s see. Someone was suggesting a switch over to another Dish TV. If anyone is planning to do so, then I would suggest all of you to wait until Tata Sky comes into the picture, then there would be a price war over the packeges and on the equipments, I am sure. Because we will have to get replaced the existing set top box to watch their channels and this means again fishing out a fair amount of money. I think SUN TV is planning to become a pay channel very soon and hence it is off the DD DTH platform. And BBC has already become a pay channel, as far as I understand. Now my only concern is, what if all free to air channels become pay channels one day? As per the clause, DD DTH can show only free to air channels. Then the DD DTH will shut down for ever if that happens?! Because, day by day free channels are becoming pay channels. What Prasar Bharti to say about this? AIR MALAYALAM is in the test transmission mode I suppose.

The country’s first free DTH service - DD Direct Plus - operated by pubcaster Doordarshan, has claimed that 1.5 million boxes have been sold till now, even as it gets ready to expand the channel offerings to 50.
In queue, according to DD sources, there are several foreign and domestic channels, including Hindi general entertainment channel Sahara One.
Though religious channels like Aastha, Jagran, Maharishi Veda Vision and God TV have all shown interest to be on the DD Direct Plus platform, no decision has been taken yet by the pubcaster whether to accommodate such channels or not.
The foreign channels that have evinced interest include Channel News Asia, German pubcaster DW, French TV5 and Canada’s SS TV.
Sources said that a committee would be set up soon to shortlist the additional 17 channels that would be finally allowed on board the DTH service for which subscribers don’t have to pay any monthly fee.
Indian channels who have shown an eagerness to be part of DD Direct Plus include some Eenadu family of channels, Sahara Samay Rashtriya, Splash TV, Win TV, Zee News, Delhi-specific Total TV, Jaya TV, interactive music channel Speed Music, CMM Music, ETC Music, SS Music and Sur Sangeet.

I just happened to see all the messages today. I am a proud owner of Dish TV (Zee’s) which offers me around 100 TV channels as on date including DD’s Direct Plus Channels. I took this connection on March 2006 by paying only initial installation charge of 3990. For the first year (i.e till March 2007), I need not pay any monthly charges. I used to get Zee and Sony channels. Of late, even Star channels are getting. The LOSS of SUN TV is replaced by STAR VIJAY. As Star Vijay telecasts many entertaining and quality programme these days better than Sun Tv, I am happy with the Dish Tv. But now TataSky is to be launched very shortly in a couple of days. We have to wait and watch its Pricing. Visit http://www.dishtvindia.in for more details about Dish TV (the pioneer in DTH). Prasar Bharti cannot be blamed as Sun Tv is not ready to beam on DD for free. So start shouting at SUN and make them to beam on DD Direct Plus. People has to look for other options like STAR VIJAY which are politically neutral channels and also qualitatively better one. They should start ignoring Sun channels and live without them like I do. Its true that some months ago it was FTA due to its tasting session but now you cant access it. dth without SUN TV is meaningless for Tamil viewers. It is also ROI for SUNTV to bring back this telecast free on AIR. More it reaches public more advantage and revenue for SUNTV and viewers ultimately feel happy.

What is the point in having free foreign language TV channels on DTH unless you know the languague.
People of Tamil Nadu made SUN TV a big success and now SUN TV should realise it. But as per the news it is going to be a pay channel very soon. Same case may be with SURYA TV as well. It is very unfortunate. So now we have learnt a lesson. Stop promoting only one channel, but concentrate in other channels as well. Otherwise this will be the ultimate result. This is not the case only with SUN but with every pay channels.
We should demand, if its a pay channel, then there should not be any commercial advertisement in it. Why can’t government come up with such regulations? Why should we pay for seeing commercial advertisements? Pay channels are enjoying the revenue from both the end: advertisers and the consumers. We should protest against it. Hope readers will agree with it.

i don’t know when r they (Prasar Bharati / DD DTH) going to listen to the agony and annoyance of the public, who are waiting for a long for the fulfilment of their assurance. Star TataSky vs Zee Dish tv
Pros:
1.Better hardware(comes at a price,at present limited in ability to watch only tatasky channels)
2.More functions.
3.Better quality(limited channels,more space)
4.Sky is a company with lots of experience in dth field.ability to provide new things ,channels,interactivity.
5.Ability to offer more channels as they have got plenty of space.
Cons:
1.At present able to add only Star and One alliance as major package.
2.Company with lots of attitude(read like to monopolise)
3.ZeeTunerPackage(Zee,Hbo,Vh1etc) missing due to non aggreement as TataSky does not want Zee Premeire,ZeeClassic( filmy channels) but ZeeTurner insists that they have to take them as well.
Service yet to be seen.
My advice to anyone wish to subscribe.
1.If you are existing cable subscriber ,stick to it for the time being.Wait till issues regarding prices ,interoperability etc get sorted out.Or wait till festival season .will get a better deal.Go for TataSky then.
TataSky will be able to provide more channels and better quality ,if for nothing else then for the simple reason that they have got more transponders.(Dishtv will not get any additional transponder unless DD moves out of Nss6)
2.If you are Dishtv subscriber,no point yet to go to TataSky.You can watch more channels and also with additional Dish and Lnbs watch other satellites as well (not possible with TAta Sky at the moment).If price drastically reduces or planning for additional STB go for TataSky.
3.If your have nothing yet still wait for festival season.

I usually update Wikipedia DDD+ block. i was the one who introduced new DDD+ freq. On Wikipedia.
Some user has posted those channel names which are not the part of DDD+ and he didn’t think that an average user might wonder about getting those channels so i had to update that block.
If you read some old posts here, you will get to know that i was the one who provided information about some extra free to air channels to this forum in my posts.
So, to correct the information in Wikipedia i had to write the Tag and the frequencies.
Non DD direct+ frequency means that the frequencies that i have provided are not the part of DDD+ bouquet. But still they are broadcasting some channels in Free to Air mode. DDD+ has only 5 freqs. while the other freqs. that i provided are the part of DISH TV and some Foreign Broadcasters. i have provide these freqs. just for the benefit of the users who watch DDD+.
if you enter these frequencies in your SET TOP BOX then you will start getting these extra channels.
Last thing i would like to add that the person who edited wikipedia article didn’t cared to check that some channels that he added are still available as FTA. He is just copycat of the charts available on internet. For example he added PLAY TV which is false information and by this he misguiding people. So, actually I had to edit a lot of information.

Why did they remove suntv while other usless channels sticked for long time? Please make necessary step to include the suntv again in DD’s DTH platform. Podhigai is a useful channel which gives more intellectual programmes, keep it up.

Let’s wait for few more days and if things are not changed by then, we will approach them through RTI Act. They will have to reply as they are a statutory autonomous body under the Ministy of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. Thank GOD now we have this act.

This is one of the failure of Indian Govt ?
Ultimatly we are the foolish people who gave the power to the looters they think of investment of money for good not at the time of involving in Scandles( and loot crores of rupees and build there apartments\bunks), this DTH is least priority for them.
This can be sorted out by looting all Houses of MP’s, MLA’s and All Braded ministers in day time by common people and then only we get enough amount for this.
Please go ahead inform all commen people about this leaders and have gun in there hand and loot / kill them.
This is freedom for the times, you are also a holi freedom fighter.

Please check the polarization. It should be HORIZONTAL. And if the signals are still weak then you should contact your dealer of your system for more clarification. Since I am not a technical person, I cannot explain you what is the exact reason for getting weak signals on your TV. I hope you are not using a LOCAL system. Signals in the LOCAl systems are not as strong as in the branded one.

Dear Noori,
No, you will not be able to watch any encrypted channels by Dish TV or by any other providers even if you feed their frequencies unless you subscribe them. It will show as ’No or Bad Signal’. For that you also have to change your Set Top Box(STB) which is having a card slotter. In other words, you cannot use the same STB to watch Dish TV, Tata Sky or DD DTH as they are not with universal features. But, of course, you will be able to watch free to air channels through these STBs on Ku band beamed in India. That means, if you want to change the DTH provider, evey time you have to change the STB.
In some other countries, universal STBs are available so you don’t have to change it every time even if you change your DTH provider. This is the Hissa!

It’s extremely disappointing to see that SUN TV disappearing from DTH without any notice. Thousands and thousands of DTH owners, especially Tamilians purchased DTH, due to the main reason of having SUN TV telecast. My DTH is lying rusted in a corner, as none of us are interested to switch on the TV, without SUN TV. Who played the dirty trick? Is it SUN TV or the DTH management? Something has to be done by the management seriously to include SUN TV in DTH. Or else, nobody will get even closer to DTH in Tamil Nadu. They simply cheated the viewers located across india.
DD should close its DTH venture if it is not competent enough to compete with other players. I strongly believe that DD has stong infrastructure to outperform the others.but it lacks its vision and implementation.
Come on DTH! Do some justice for Tamilians all around the country. Don’t delay! We want SUN TV. Don’t play dirty politics.

I have copied and sent this link to dddirect@dd.nic.in for their information if in case they haven’t seen it before as chance is very less because they are bureaucrats! I have also sent a mail asking what is the deadline for introducing new channels on dd direct plus. No answer was given till date.
I am planning to approach them using RTI Act. But before that I need to know if that will have any impact. I need to know your reactions on the same. What is the loss to ministers and officials of I&B and prasar bharthy if they do not expand the channels.They are not investing from their pockets.As some one earlier pointed the opposite is true.Its the hard earned money of the tax payers which is getting wasted.I hope Prasar bharty has to pay annual charges for hiring tansponders on NSS 6.The repeat of channels in new transponders do not generate any revenue and it is just continued from the past two and half months and may be lying Idle from the Insecption.But who is going to listen.Our system is bad and we the citizens of India are reponsible for it.I thinks I& B have no guts to come open to public to address their problems reg.channel expansion.

i read the postings regularly and decided to point out few things.
1. I request Mr.Tivari to stop promoting dish Tv in this forum.
2. Never go with Dish freedom plan. There is a possibility for Dd to change their satellite from
NSS6 to any of the INSAT satellites. In such case, yourdish Tv receiver will become useless.
3. You can use your DD-direct equipment to capture ku-band channels from Arabsat (west direction) in which you het some movie channels(MBC)-totally u get around 30 channels.
4. Asiasat3 has started a new beam on India. Once if they start some FTA channels in that,You can use your DD-direct equipment to capture ku-band channels from Asiasat3.
5.if your current dish is 90cm or above, buy a c-band dual LNB and capture c band channels from Asiasat3.similar to this : http://www.apnadth.com/combo_DTH/combo_dth.html
6. D-W Channel is a wonderfull channel from germany. you can learn german watching channels. they
telecast programs alternatively in english and German.

Now as Kumar pointed out, test channels have been renamed and filled with repeated channels. Thank you Prasar Bharati for reducing our time from scrolling up to watch those channels!
Now, right under the news ticker, DD (in Malayalam news bullettin) says 35 TV channels and 20 radio channels available on DD DTH . But most of the time the additional 8 radio channels are in the silence mode. Is it that way? Or is there any problem with my system in capturing the audio from these 8 channels?
Abhilash, can you please tell us what Prasar Bharati did do in Kerala! I am very interested to know that because apparently I am also a Keralite. Thanks.

Today DD dth added Sun tv and Sun news. In fact, SUN wanted to have their own dth, but due to failure of recent satelite launch...the plan got postponed. In the meantime, Jaya tv in the process of making bad image of present DMk goverment, so sun tv could not hold for long. Instead paying 1 crore, they paid two crore as carriage fee and brought sun tv and sun news both togather to promote their government. By some means, we too got benefitted of thier quality program

Very much delighted to learn that SUN TV came on the track of DD Direct plus. It is simply superb. In fact i have paid three months subscription to cable operator to watch SUN TV when they withdrew all of a sudden. Now, DD Direct plus is shinning. Many Many thanx to all who made it possible. From today 13.09.06 dd has just start sun tv and sun news after a long waiting for new channels. But we all have to demand for the fulfillment of their promise. i.e. 50 channels. When they can come to this level.
Dear members, you all may try the satellite LM1 for some free to air channels beamed in KU band. some of them are FTV, FMen, Raj Tv, Kairali (third channel from Kairali), Bloomberg, RTPI and some other russian channels. Signal quality is almost 75.
Just try it.

I WANT TO CONGRATULATE MY TAMIL BROATHERS AND SISTERS TO GET SUN TV BACK. Now they have SUN TV and JAYA TV which are equivalent to our SONY/STAR PLUS/ZEE TV.
