Ajeet Bajaj, the first Indian to ski to North PoleOne more feather has been added to the Indian cap, Ajeet Bajaj, a common name in the world of electrifying and intimidating missions has become the first Indian to reach the North Pole on skis as part of a cross country skiing expedition.

40 years old adventurous Bajaj, skied for nine days from a Russian weather camp in the Arctic Ocean to reach the North Pole, and spent days and nights in some of the most extreme conditions on the planet.

I am sure after being the first Asian who rafted and kayaked most challenging rivers in six continents of the world and after being crowned as the first Indian to reach north pole on skis would definitely prompted Ajeet to do something more electrifying and intimidating.

What an amazing adventure! The spirit of exploration is clearly alive and well in India! Cross country skiing is a wonderful sport, and many skiers now seem to be choosing to hang up their downhill skis and escape the hustle and bustle of overcrowded slopes and blaring stereos. Switching to cross country has significant advantages from an environmental perspective too, of course. There is less need for lift infrastructure and the problems associated with piste contstruction (deforestation, creating avalanche corridors, snow compaction damaging underlying vegetation, pollution and energy use caused by snow cannons) are largely avoided. Sweden is a wonderful place to go cross-country skiing, and I’d recommend the trails around the beautiful area of Grovelsjon in the west.
