We all know that Parliament had passed the Constitution Amendment Bill envisaging provision of hiking reservation and implementing it in central institutions with agreement after due discussions with political partiesand even President has given his assent to the measure.
Now,this Government’s proposal to introduce reservation in Central educational institutions and IITs and IIMs has kicked up a row, HRD Minister Arjun Singh is of the view that this issue is being whipped up.
Arjun Singh said:
Some people are trying to whip up the issue.
Already some academics have criticised the proposal based on the Mandal formula providing 27 per cent quota for OBCs in Central educational institutions and the IIMs and IITs.
I think this proposal is surely going to reignite the merit vs quota debate in the country with academics and students expressing resentment over the move and If implemented, the new policy would take the overall reservation in the Central Government-funded higher education institutions to 49.5 per cent from the current 22.5 for SC and ST students.

We must isolate the politicians recommending reservations on cast line and taking the country fast backwards—the real enemies of this country. they are bent to punish those on whose merrit and intelligince the country is enjoying the taste of high developmentat this moment and the politicians also of course filling there pockets. I never thought our prime minister also fall among those with selfishness and mean mindedness. Their design need to be resisted–if required with enough blood shed–the integrity of this nation is at stake .If vote is their only moto we must fail them by rejecting them in all elections.

This is a poor display of vote bank politics played by HRD minister and congress party and surprise to see that even Prime minister Manmohan singh[who is respected amongst all party] is unable to look into this issue.
Resevation was already a big problem for development of india and cabinet is extending it upto 50%.
If they really want to lift poorer/backward sections of the society, they can provide financial assitance to them. But allocating quota for SC/ST/OBC is injustice with crores of other general students who fight for there job and future. I think now the time has come that all the indians .should unite and strongly oppose this move

this is no good. its going to ruin the whole country. while some comment this is not a major issue, so let me tell you what is going to happen if this reservation system comes in.
in one of the countries where Indian students are recognized for their excellence, US, we are going to lose our image in the next 5 to 10 years. major investments will be pulled back and our overall productivity is going to fall down. we will lose our race in the international arena. we were already awesome with our sports and games now our educational institutions are also going to have the same outlook.

I think Hon; Minister Mr. Arjun Singh’s son/daughter may not studying/studied in any of IIT’s or IIM’s but I am quite sure that they might have studied in any of the world class foreign universities.

Today Indian cricket team is best performing in the world and accomodates even thoes people for whom reservation is being recomended .

If non skilled persons are taking higher post then what the skills and highly efficient people will do ?
The economy is running only because of highly skilled professionals and experts. If non technical and non skilled professionals will be recruited on higher post then so many problems occur in development.

The constitution is reservation oriented,But it was constructed for only 50 years,But now its 58 years of the Independence, So now it should be change.
Every one should get chance to show their talent,We are not in oppose to OBC but in more than average cases because of the reservation some real talent has to put their feets down. and even that reserved person is not able to use that opportunity. So at the end the opportunity is lost for both.
So, need to give the preference to talent.

Do you know why all the goverment secotor now a days not able to work with new technology ?
Becoz of only all the gov. job are allowed OBC. and they people are enter with low % of markes. while actually efficient person are not able to get job.

your decision of increasing the reservations for obc will be beneficial to only small mass of people whereas it will affect badly to the houses of millions. so just for the selfish motive of vote bank please dont play with the carrier of millions of bright people.
this decision of yours will in long run affect the development of the country because in place of competent and bright persons if you appoint the person just on the basis of his class and not on his merit then he cannot contribute any thing to the development of society.
i strongly opposes this decision and this reservations should be removed immediately for the sake of nation

We just can do something to remove reservation by making our selves unite.
These politicians like Arjun Sinh are not really wel-wishers of OBC people but they support them just because of VOTE politics. It’s the biggest vote bank for all parties.
If we want to have favors for our selves we also have to unite and vote the party who is not supporting any reservation.
No body listens to us just because our votes are not one directional, we all see our individual and short term benifits and forget such long term effects like reservations.

The protests in Delhi is just the begining of a serious agitation against the UPA if it decides to go forth with the quota regime. ..................Due to the timing of Arjun Singh the students were unable to gather forces against the Mandal report but as the exams are almost over we can hope for different student groups to join forces against this preposterous proposal. .. .. . . I commend the effort of the student of medicine in delhi and those of IIT Chennai would like to ask the students all over India to join them in their effort to rid us of caste politics in this country. ———– I would have been in the fore front of the protests if it weren’t for my entrance exams which will keep me tied upto end of May. - — - - - - Enough of that , I was hoping that our fellow students could device a definete strategy so that the agitation does not die down. — - — - - - We know that media and the Internet is the widest covering communication we have , and if we have to fight the a politically motivated issue we need to politicize the issue in our favour... moreover because no political party is going to support our cause until we do.. . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . .. For a more organized effort the first priority should be to involve different unions like the DUSU in the protests. Thats the hard part after which its going to be a cake-walk. Atleast what I think is that since both ABVP and NSUI get heavy backing from the BJP and Congress it will be hard to involve them by talking to their leaders, the trick will be to involve individual students from the DU until enough support is mustered to automatically pull in DUSU (they too need their votes ) This is important to be done before the new reservations can be applied so that general category is still in majority. Then we need to make our slogans specifically anti-congress so that the opposition feels safe to give support to the protests. Our primary goal should to a complete rollback and final to abolish the present caste based reservations as a whole and bring a new system to provide concessions and lower cutoff to an acceptable level for the economically and not the socially underprivileged .

It is not children of politician who go looking for jobs or seats in educational institutions. It is middle class families hoping to secure their livelihood. But is this middle class caring enough? We have to fight to give those socially priviledged class a safe place to live –a seperate state–name?–say OBC-Reserved India—they can have there IITS Med colleges IIMs etc etc there. They can have 100 % resenvation there. They can invite NRIs there too. LET ME CLARIFY THAT RESERVATION WILL ONLY GIVE THE SEAT TO A PERSON , THE PERSON HAS TO CLEAR THE EXAM AND PROVE HIS CAPABILITY.
We have to look for the betterment of the people who are poor and need our assistance , we have to give them the platform by doing the reservation.
SC/ST/OBC people are left behind the world if you go to some villages or even in cities then you will realize the gap that is there with these people and us.i am saying this because i have seen the pain which these people feel.

If you mean that regardless of reservation they are still competing, then u are partially wrong/right my dear. When they are appearing for exams they are competing only amongst themselves and not with the entire mass. You might have gone to villages and seen their pain, but i have seen them as my fellow mates in a premium engineering college struggling to keep up with the rest of the students and eventually getting isolated and loosing every bit of confidence. I won’t be surprised if after a few years in college they themselves come out against this reservation policy. If you want to help the people of backward communities, first let them pass the entrance exams on their own merit and then the government can give them the financial support they will need for higher education.
Before you lend your support to any such discriminary measures just think about what effect it might have in future. This will only lead to more discriminations and violence and you people will be responsible for this.

Please dont waste time—get united—this country needs a right kind of jolt one for all time. These politicians have looted this country enough just in front of our eyes. Let us finish their game one for all time. All rules to be set this time. Let there be a larger struggle than that of independence. It’s amazing how righteous and morally superior we all get on topics that adversely impact our lives and lifestyles. No one is really bothered about declining standards of education in India are they or else they would have been protesting about the state of primary education years ago.
So how come all you guys are not protesting about all the seats that are reserved for NRIs or specific communities or the ’donation seats’ where the rich can buy their children a seat in some of the best private professional colleges in the country. How many of these do you think have the same ’merit’ criteria as those in the open competition category. So why pick on the OBCs alone? The rich OBCs will anyway buy their children seats in these colleges; atleast these reservations would give the not-so privileged ones a fighting chance. So instead of getting all angry and belligerent about reservations why cant there be a proper discussion on what can be done to work towards some kind of social justice in the area of education, be it primary or higher education.

In India 5 % is upper caste and 85 % is OBC/ST/SC,
and from last 100 years these 5 % are rulling india like british did, Its time to shut your mouth and let the 85 % work together.

I am regretting that i got a chance to change my caste as i was am arfan. i studied in a Shankar matt to foolishly branded as Government deprived class ”Bramhin”. my son has taken 99% in Pre university. But no able to sleep as he is not 100% shure that he will get in to profetional college. Blaming me as Why you chose the caste(Govt SC ST) catagary. I agree that OBC people are left behind and we gotta do something. But reservation will do more harm than good. The opponents of reservation talk about scholarships, but that won’t solve the problem either.
What is the root cause? Most lower caste people don’t have resources or motivation for higher studies. So, will reservation do the trick? NO! We need programs to support them with all the resources that they need. This may include extra tutoring time, study material, books, library, even financial support for poor people. We also need programs to increase their awareness and to motivate them.
Politicians, there is a big advantage for you too. You’ll definitely get more votes for implementing all these programs.
