Call Center and BPO'S walk towards ill-health

More or less Call centers are fresh and highly spiced gateway to the world of career prospects in India. The career opportunity imparted by call centers is unsurpassed, most proficient and budding option for which even a fresher can easily go for.

The dawn of globalization in India has opened new gates for Indian Economy; lots of companies from overseas are progressively
outsourcing their call center services to India — a new trend started with decorated pros and ignored cons.

Indian universities till the advent of call centers every year were churning out millions
of educated youngsters with no job syndrome attached to their fates who are more than happy to work any time at half of the salary of their American counter parts.

Call centers rooted itself in India due to highly educated population willing to work at lower wage rates and happy to be the back-office of the world, in return this industry provided wide range of opportunities to Indian youths — well paid jobs for the minimum qualification, facilities like to and fro transport, subsidized meals, medical facilities, good working conditions,7 star environment and what not.

Undoubtedly, the emergence of call centers in India has given rise to a new generation of working youngsters, proved itself as an employment generation industry and thrown open new-fangled and stirring choices in terms of career prospects.

Although this BPO boom in India has been happily tagged as the next industrial revolution but in this race of overhauling we have overlooked what this industry is giving us — a legacy that is hazardous.

Due to the lure of money, Indian youth is brimming like bees towards the beehive of an unfit environment-Call Center, closing their eyes and mind towards the vital fact that it is eating away their Mind, Body N Soul gradually.

Basically this call center working is not only about outsourcing of work but it’s about outsourcing health problems along with the work.

Call Center and BPO'S walk towards ill-health

The environment and aura in Call centers or BPO’s may be eye catching in the first gaze consisting of Compartmentalized working spaces, fresh air, 24×7 available unending Cups of Coffee, off duty drinking sessions among young boys and girls but actually this environment is slowly pulling our youth towards long term health problems.

The youth always has an impressionable mind thus can be easily influenced by charm of money.

The anxiety of being well-off and well heeled in early phase of life pull and compel them towards this alternative route and deter these fresh minds from their normal course of study either for the kicks or to just earn add-on money in flexi hours, hardly bothering about the effects of suddenly changed lifestyle since they are merely conscious and well-informed about the clutches of suffering and ill- health they are heading to which is going to hoist its obnoxious head on them curtly.

Compared to the Pros Cons of working in call-centers and BPO S’ are in heaps.

To name a few they are as such:

Insufficient breaks

High levels of stress due to extreme pressure

Extreme monitoring of work

Inadequate toilet breaks

Disturbed sleep due to wrong working hours

Loss of appetite

Loss of hair

Hearing problems

Digestion problems leading to bloating and gas.

Work is acutely monitored

Telephone conversations are recorded giving them no privacy

Pre-mature aging

Inability to socialize with family and relations

Tendency to become irresistible

Insomnia

Coronary malfunctions, high blood pressure

Irrelevant sexual exposures at the work force

Getting into smoking habits for the sake of kicks

Survical to lumber spinal problems due to bad postures

Short-tempered ness at home

So it’s for us to decide whether we want a healthy nation or a queasy nation with worldly and material goods.

Hi

I have worked in a call center for almost one year andI can swear that they are nothing more than ghettos.I’m based in Australia and I worked for a call center for ANZ (soon to be outsourced to India )

I worked hard to get my permancy at the Bank so that I could move to a diffrent depatment within the bank. This was not to happen. As soon as I let them know of my desire I was framed and forced to resign.I ended up feeling depressed and used .

After every now and then they ’raise the bars ’ meaning we have to sell more and more but when it comes to payrise they manipulate things in such a way that none gets it except the top management. All the demanding and crap positions are relageted to the Indians and the top and soft positions are kept by ’Whites ’

Also on an average a consultant is made to take 200 calls !I have ended up with a sever ear infection. You are not even allowed to go to the toilet in between...if you are stuck on a call during a break you have to stick to youe schedule even if you have just five minutes left otherwise it will spoil your stats. The Bank is minting millions ...their input is 10 % and they are getting 100 % returns.

I’m feeling so exploited and the system here is so rigged that it only favours the powerful.India should stop the call centres from eating up the youth and corrupting them from the very start of their lives.
