Senior Hindi litterateur and journalist Manohar Shyam Joshi died in a Delhi hospital on Thursday. He was 73 and is survived by wife and three sons. The cremation will took place at Nigambodh Ghat at 12 pm.
The author who became a household name with first television soap opera Hum Log was admitted to the National Heart Institute in south Delhi on March 25 with acute respiratory problems where he breathed his last at 6.40 a.m.
Joshi has worked as editor with Hindustan Times of its weekly Morning Echo, in the late seventies, was author of several books and has even written massively admired TV series like Buniyad, Mungeri Lal ke Haseen Sapne and Kakka ji Kahin.
Joshi has even films like Hey Ram, Papa Kahte Hain, Apu Raja and Bhrashtachar to his credit. He was honoured with the Sahitya Akademi Award in February 2005 along with awards from the Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh governments.
The demise of this versatile writer has traumatized Hindi literary and film fraternity.
