Hope of national badminton coach Vimal Kumar who termed India’s entry into Thomas Cup quarterfinals as a ‘good achievement’, and was quite confident of a good performance in the next round was dashed as India bowed out of the Thomas Cup badminton championship today at the quarter- final stage.
An overview-
• Had to stguggle with world number three player Peter Gade and number seven Kenneth Jonassen,
• Even with top doubles combination in the world Jons Erikson and Martin Hansen,
• India’s top shuttler Chetan Anand, missed the tie against Germany due to injury
• National Champion Anup Sridhar went down to Jonassen 21-12, 21-11 in 34 minutes in the second match.
The doubles combination of Rupesh Kymar and V Diju opened their account well against Erikson and Hansen before losing 21-14, 21-19 to hand over victory to Denmark.
The fact is India achieved the whitewash despite their top shuttler Chetan Anand missing the tie due to injury and anyhow, the Indian players are going to return fatherland contented as they pulled off what they had on their board to do.
