Lawyer, David Martin who was accused by the Law Society of B.C. of professional misconduct and labeled willfully blind for his actions while he represented an accused Air India bomber, has been suspended for six months and fined $35,000 for the cost of his disciplinary hearing.
Mr. Ducharme said:
You don’t pay your client for the privilege of representing them.
Mr. Martin’s lawyer Josiah Wood bickered and favoured Mr. Martin by saying that he was handling several cases at the same time and did not pay close attention to the billings submitted by the children and passed on to the government.
I agree that while seeing the past record of Martin we all will surely acknowledge that he has a vast amount of experience and intellectual capacity.
But I think that the nature of his conduct remains unabated as Martin breached his duties in this relationship, resulting in the potential to undermine the integrity of the justice system.
I would say that Mr. Martin if you did not had time to do a moral and quality job, then you should not have taken the case, there are other competent lawyers as well.
