Students and kids being penalized for their mischief is a common phenomenon but this time to my surprise for the first time our own Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has remembered its role as a media cop and came down heavily on 7 TV channels for broadcasting objectionable remixes of Hindi film songs and in addition to this they too have to make an public apology. Awesome work!
Channel V, B4U Music, Balle Balle Music, MTV Music, iTV Music and MH1 were slashed for broadcasting what is regarded as sordid songs in violation of the Programme Code prescribed under the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.Along with them notices were issued to 31 satellite channels or broadcasting proxy ads in 13 categories of liquor and tobacco brands for violating relevant sections of the Advertising Code.
The question that is tickling my mind is that when these sleazy songs were being shown on air where these law regulators were, and moreover when there is no ban on making of such stuff and they are being passed by our censor then why these channels are being reprimanded for showcasing them. In addition to this, it’s one’s own notion to grade which stuff is sleazy for him\her and which one is not. If one as a viewer wants to watch all the stuff why are you pressurizing. If channels will not solve their purpose I think there are enough alternative options, so penalty and apology for what Mr. Broadcasting Minister?
